PEROTTI: I want to make my contribution this season
Read everything that Diego Perotti had to say ahead of Thursday's Europa League game against Wolfsberg.
Roma host the Austrian side at the Stadio Olimpico (kick-off at 21:00 local time) knowing that they will progress to the next phase of the competition as long as they avoid defeat.
How have Roma changed this season?
"Some players have left and others have joined. We have a different coach. We're on the right track. There have been some games where we definitely could have done better but we're on a decent run at the moment. We played really well against Inter, who are a great team. We have to keep doing what we're doing and we know that tomorrow is a very important match."
At the start of the season you said you wanted to win the Europa League. Do you think this squad has what it takes to go the distance?
"I do. I believe in my team-mates, in the squad as a whole and in what the boss is doing with us. I think we have the ability to win it. There are some very good teams, including the sides coming from the Champions League, but we're focused on ourselves and on tomorrow. It's a game we must win. Only afterwards can we think about the next stage of the competition."
How are you doing? Can you be like a new signing in the second half of the season?
"It was a horrible start to the season for me because I didn't miss a single training session during the summer and then the day before Serie A kicked off I got injured. I was quite surprised too because I'd never had a quad injury before. I think and I hope it's behind me now but as professional footballers we know that injuries are part of the game. It doesn't happen only to me.
"Personally I hope to be fit from now until the end of the year. Hopefully I can stay fully fit and make an important contribution to the team - at the age of 31, that would be great."
Do you and the other players speak about the injuries Roma have had this year?
"It doesn't only happen at Roma. Look at Real Madrid - they're a great team with lots of injuries. You get them all the time in this job. We've had muscle injuries but fractures too. It's partly down to bad luck - it's not just fitness."
Do you talk about the possible change of ownership?
"We focus on football. The club worries about things like that. We play football."
How are the new pitches that have been relaid recently?
"There's nothing to suggest that our injuries have anything to do with the pitches. The club is doing everything possible to ensure we're as comfortable as can be. They've renovated the entire training ground and the pitches needed improving. They might not be perfect yet because they've only just been done but hopefully with all the precautions we're taking we'll see fewer injuries and we can all be fully fit."
The coach asks his wide players to come inside a lot. Does that suit your style of play?
"Ye. The idea is to surprise the opposition and not stay too open. If you cut inside, you can catch your opponents off guard - I like playing that way. We're trying to do things better and the right way to help everyone score more, especially Edin."
