AS Roma can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Sassuolo for the initial loan of forward Gregoire Defrel.

Defrel, 28, returns to his former club until 30 June 2020 for a loan fee of €3 million.

As part of the agreement, the deal includes an obligation for Sassuolo to make the permanent for a fee of €9m - subject to certain conditions being triggered.

That agreement itself also includes various performance-related add-ons, that guarantee a minimum payment of €1m but could reach a total of €2m.

The French forward, who joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2017, spent last season on loan at Sampdoria.

In total he made 20 appearances for Roma, scoring one goal.
